Homeopathy has never been so popular and currently 15% of the population of Britain trust it.1 The over-the-counter market in homeopathy currently stands at around £40million in the UK, based on the last market figures published by Mintel. This study estimated that in 2007 over-the-counter homeopathy sales were worth £38million, but are projected to reach £46million by 2012.2
Looking more broadly than the UK, there are over 30 million people in Europe using homeopathic medicines, and 50% of the French population are regular users.3 Across Europe, turnover of all homeopathic products is €1.77million, an average consumption of €4 per head. This is approximately 1% of the whole pharmaceutical market and approximately 7% of the over-the-counter market. |
